Interview with Luis, Kelly, Cheryl, Tina and Shaylee
JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Luis: NONE!!!! Kelly: in the middle of the day, you are let out of
your cell for rec. time. you can play cards,
watch tv, visit with other inmates and so on Cheryl: Cards, TV, you could chat with each other. Pretty
boring stuff but do what you have to do to pass
the time. Tina: There was only small stainless steal tables to sit
at to play cards and watch a really small
television in behind a glass Shaylee: The Chaplans office once a week just to
get out of your cell
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Luis: No i didnt since I was in lockdown the entire
time and was only to get out for one hour every
72 hours. They claim that they had to do that
because they were understaffed, but its a lie. Kelly: regular access Cheryl: Regular. Tina: Yes I guess if you wanted to squint at a small
screen television Shaylee: Whats the point in warching television if
you cant hear it
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Luis: I wasnt to interested in staying in shape. Kelly: im sure i lost some weight Cheryl: I don't know Tina: Did not have to worry about that since I was only
in the Oklahoma County Detention Center for one day Shaylee: No because the food is not edible
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Luis: I never even saw the light of day much less get
to go outside. Kelly: none Cheryl: Never Tina: Never at either facility
Shaylee: Never
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Luis: Yes they did offer church services but I never
attended so I couldnt tell you what they were
like. Kelly: im not sure Cheryl: I don't know Tina: Yes and I attended when I was at Cleveland County
Detention Center awaiting transfer to Oklahoma county Shaylee: Once a week if you request to speak with
a believer
You never see the light of day in Oklahoma County. EVER! There are no outside facilities whatsoever. Another annoying thing is they never shut the lights out. Oh, and they crank up the A/C and only give you a thin blanket, and no pillow. So... It's usually 3 inmates in a cell built for 2, it's freezing ALL the time, hard to sleep with the lights on 24/7 and you never see the outdoors until your release date. Sensory and comfort deprovation at its finest.

Staffing is a problem in the jail as well as overcrowding is .. the overcrowding problem can be fixed .. but more staffing depends on the budget .. how much of that budget can be used for hiring is uncertain, it seems that a lot of spending goes toward what the Sheriff wants for his own reasons, or vehicles and law enforcement equipment than to the jail needs, a very important part of the Sheriff's Office. Maybe one day, Sheriff's Office spending will be done wisely under better management.
