Interview with Luis, Kelly, Cheryl, Shaylee and Tina
JM: How many different blocks were there? Luis: I have no idea but its I think 8 stories worth
of cells. Kelly: alot Cheryl: Not sure. Shaylee: What do u mean blocks? Each pod has
about 50 cells, each cell has two bunks
and 3 or more people
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Luis: they were in alphabetical order. Kelly: they went alphabetically like a, b, c, etc Cheryl: They were all Alphabetised A, B and so on. Shaylee: Yeah A,B,C,and D
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Luis: the gays and the scared ones were in protection
pods and the felons were apart from the
misdominors and of course the blacks were kept
out of the hispanic cells.
Note: Jail Media does not
condone racism in
any way, shape or form. We thought we would be
doing our
readers a disservice, however, by censoring
interviews - it is
important for anybody wondering about what jail
is like to
understand what mentality really exists in jail.
Kelly: misdemeanors and felonies were on separate
floors. and of course men and women were
separated Cheryl: Misdemeanours were and they kept the male and
female separate of course. Tina: The medical inmates where held on my side of the
block and the mentally ill where held on the other
side in a smaller block area on the same floor Shaylee: They were placed based on their offense
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Luis: I dont remember anything good about the
place ....unless you count leaving.
For me the worst part about being there was
that I was there for something I didnt do. Kelly: there was nothing nice Cheryl: Nothing was nice about it at all. The worst, I
don't know. It was all pretty bad. Tina: There where not really any nicest or worst things
about the blocks they both looked the same to me
except that one was bigger then they other Shaylee: The nicest part was forgetting where u
are the worst part is not being aloud to
clean your assigned cell for months at a
time
is the 4th floor at OK County bad? my brother is there b/c some crack whore said he kidnapped her at 9AM but then went to the casino with him. WTF? WHen the OKC police came and searched by parents house they thought it would be funny to hang a monkey at the end of a noose in my brothers room. Every news channel is going to have this story. if they were there with a search warrant perform the search warrant don't be playing with stuffed animals and try to threaten someone.

Oklahoma County Jail if the filthiest place I've ever seen. Especially at the beginning when you're waiting to see the judge via video monitor. They take you to the to one of the top floors and put you in this ball court with upwards of 60 other inmates. I personally waited 10 or 12 hours up there. The ball court was covered in urine and feces. There was almost no place to sit that hadn't been pee'd on so everyone just walked around in circles stirring up the smell of human waste under their feet.

Most jail facilities perform prisoner sight checks by visual, verbal or video monitors. The most affective way to perform a sight check is by visual, physical and verbal verification. Some jail standards require that sight checks be performed every hour. In one hour, a lot can happen. In my career on some occasions, sight checks were performed by ghost officers and documented for record as being performed. The jailer or detention officer figures everything is quiet and peaceful, so documents the roster as making a check. These officers when caught doing such acts are dismissed or reprimanded.
In any large long-term jail facility, something is always going on behind the steel doors and concrete walls like prisoners plotting escape, prisoners changing living locations for the night so that they can have sex with a fellow prisoner, or moving into a cell they know has a door jam rarely checked by guards. Making prisoner sight checks can be very dangerous at times. Generally only one officer makes the checks in a particular jail area. There may be a prisoner hiding out in a shower area hoping for a guard to walk by, or an officer can walk into a whole pod of one-hundred prisoners who were not locked down properly. This can be a scary situation when attempting to lock them all back down. Some prisoners will refuse to lock down and have to be physically escorted to their living area. I have seen a hundred or more prisoners cause a jail disturbance and threatening harm on all jail staff. These are just a few things that can happen during a normal sight check.
To perform a correct bed or sight check is to count the prisoners in each cell, have the prisoners verify their names against a current roster, and that the officer clearly observes each prisoner for injuries, skin, hair and breathing. Their cell is visually inspected as well as a physical count. Cells are inspected for signs of damage or contraband. The cell door should always be pulled and pushed to determine that the door is locked and secure. If the cells are located in a pod, then all of the doors should show locked on the electronic control panel board, showing that there are no security breeches. A sight check is not performed if the officer fails to inspect the prisoners and cell areas. Jail personnel have been known to have falsified a document to save time in order to catch up on their other duties. If the officer making the sight checks suspects anything irregular or unusual occurring, they should call for immediate backup assistance. Officers should never assume everything is secure or safe. At no time should any officer open a prisoner's locked door without assistance present.
Sight checks are vital for the protection of each officer and prisoner housed, preventing escapes, further damage to a facility, and for controlling contraband, and will reduce most prisoner plots if they know they are being checked properly. If prisoners know that they are not being checked regularly, they will attempt to dig through the walls, plot a hostage taking action or in some cases, injure or kill a fellow prisoner or a member of the jail staff. Every officer who works in a small or large jail facility should take their job seriously at all times. Remember, neglecting your duties or doing your duties incorrectly can get your fellow officer hurt or killed. Neglect or not paying attention to your job can also get a prisoner injured, or could create the opportunity for a prisoner escape or major damage to your facility.
